Music to inspire,
...and be enjoyed,
...in a unique setting

MUSIC IN THE ABBEY each year presents a series of high-quality concerts throughout the summer in the historic and stunning setting of Hexham Abbey. The series opens and closes with evening concerts, with a programme of saturday lunchtime recitals in between. Concerts and recitals feature both local musicians and invited artists from around the UK and beyond.

Concerts feature the world-renowned abbey organ built in 1974 by Lawrence Phelps of Ontario - the only instrument by Phelps in the British Isles. Music in the Abbey hosts the Lawrence Phelps Memorial award - a biennial competition for up and coming young organists.

The 2008 programme features a spectacular and large-scale vespers setting by a Venetian master, our regular series of saturday lunchtime organ recitals, and an evening of choral and organ favourites. Click here for full details of the 2008 programme.
